Question about Bugs

      thx. I’m interested to learn or see an anecdotal graph of the annoyance of flies & mosquitos as the summer season.  Do bugs sharply drop off with a soft freeze? and a scale of human annoyance by bugs.  Sorry I come from dry grand canyon where there’re no annoying bugs.  -Andy, thanks

      I would love to see a graph like that!  The only thing I can tell you is that in August – if its been dry – there are generally many fewer bugs.  I have been to the Allagash in September when it was wet and the bugs were back.  Its been fairly dry, so bugs shouldn’t be too bad right now.  Someone who has been there recently may have better first-hand information.

      [Update:  8/17/26 — Alyson and I just got back from 3 days on the water.  Nary a bug in site!  It was wonderful]

      thanks for the reply.  evry week or so I day dream about the allagash.  I wonder if it’s possible to have a time to year to float it when the bugs’re minimal & it’s still warm enuff to enjoy swimming a few times each day.
