Croque Brook

Rating: 2

Flat pretty site in tall grass on left bank of river. Plenty of space to pitch tents, but buggy with all the tall grass. Comes up quick in the rapids so is a little hard to access. (credit to Morgan Ingari for great information below!)

We ended up having to stay here in an “any port in the storm” situation when round pond was totally full after an already brutal day of paddling! It is indeed spacious but was the least well maintained site we stayed at and the tall grass made it extremely buggy. The water is also EXTREMELY fast moving so it’s not a great place to bathe or chill in the river. Ultimately we were incredibly happy to have it after a grueling 28 mile day of paddling, but this campsite pales in comparison to the others we stayed at and is in my opinion more of a “last resort!”

I’d say a 2 – it’s flat, and there’s an easy place to pull the canoes up so it has that going for it! Morale was low when we arrived so we are certainly biased but the bugs, the grass, and the fairly eroded slope to bring gear up as well as the fast moving river exit dock significant points in my opinion

Thank you so much for making this site!! We used all of your ratings when planning our trip and put them in our CalTopo – we were so excited to come back and contribute to your community!

I’ve been to this campsite several times, the grass is always knee-high… and filled with snakes. I think maybe if it has been taken care of better, it has great potential! Worthy of staying yes, but not on our top ten!
