I know it might not seem safe to some, but one of the most magical and memorable times I had during my Allegash journey was taking my canoe out at night with my cousin. We went out around 8:50pm, pushing off from our campsite into a sea of black. Keep in mind, there was zero currant, which allowed us to not worry about being swept down river. Nevertheless, being out there felt like I was taking in natures beauty in its most vulnerable form. The woods were so quiet. I felt only a faint hum of energy, leaving me in a reverent state of intense wonder, respect, and appreciation. If not for my truly tired being, I would have stayed out on that canoe for hours.
