Gorgeous site on a glorious bend in the river. Ample flat sites, including a few deeper in the woods. There are many artifacts here from the lumbering days, including a couple of old log haulers about 100 yards south of the site just back from the river.
Cunliff Depot is a great place to stay, and has a hidden attraction! Towards the back of the campsite to the right there is a small trail that will have you crossing over a brick to go over and see a couple of old locomotives parked. If you were just passing by there is a gravel bar just before the campsite. Pull off on that gravel bar, and there’s a small trail that goes up over the bank. Great place to stop for lunch or even just a check it out and go.
When you come back out to the river, look down as far as you can see to the opposite bank, and you will see a gigantic softwood tree that stands out much more from the rest, just to the right of it is a little walking path up over the bank. If you follow it, there is a gravestone from a gentleman who used to work at the depot way way back in the day. Unfortunately, he passed away while working out there and was laid to rest in the most peaceful locations.
